Sophia Martinez-Badillo (a senior at Rivera High School) has been recognized as a 2020 Greater San Antonio Affiliate Winner for Aspirations in computing by her passion and work on coding and programming. “NCWIT Aspirations in Computing (AiC) changes what’s possible for women in technology from K-12 through career by offering the kind of encouragement that combats isolation, enables long-term persistence, opens doors, and changes lives. AiC uses program elements that spark interest in computing (AspireIT); recognizes and celebrates women’s technical aspirations and abilities, as well as the educators who support them, (AiC Award Recognitions); and, provides an expansive, supportive network (AiC Community)”.
Being in this community opens opportunities for girls who want to give back to the community by giving them resources to help other younger girls and allows them to learn valuable leadership skills. In addition, a national network of peers, supported by professionals and volunteers. Furthermore, they have more open internships and connections with a lifetime partner, such as Apple, Strategic Partners which are: Bank of America, Microsoft, Google , and other organizations. Sophia is already planning to start a project which will revolve around technology to help other people within the same interest. She plans to do this as she begins her journey in Computer Engineering at Texas A&M. According to Sophia, what pushed her to strive further into her goals was her teacher, Angie Capistran (business teacher). She was the one that has seen most of her progress and had motivate her to do better.”
